From sensational light displays to delicious bakery treats, Strasbourg’s Christmas markets celebrate the joy of the season. We review some of the Christmas Markets’ best features, local activities and five-star hotels. Now’s a great time to book your business class flights to Strasbourg to enjoy the activities.

Nothing gets you in the holiday spirit better than the delectable scents, sparkling lights, scrumptious treats and rousing bonhomie found in Europe's famed Christmas markets. Luckily, now's the perfect time to book discounted business class tickets to Strasbourg to experience the ultimate of all holiday markets, Christkindelsmärik.

Repeatedly voted the best of Europe's Christmas markets, Christkindelsmärik is also the oldest, established in 1570. From the end of November to December 31, Strasbourg is enveloped by Christmas, offering 300 chalets filled with luscious baked goods, local crafts, aromatic pine trees, chorale and dance performances, holiday parades and all the special touches that make an Alsatian holiday so enticing. With 11 different Christmas markets spread throughout the village, visitors can spend weeks enjoying them all. If you don't have that much time, here are a few highlights you shouldn't miss:

The Great Christmas Tree in Place Kléber, in the Village of Sharing, is stunning at 98-feet tall. As the centerpiece of the market, new lighting effects on the tree are revealed each week, making each visit to the tree a delightful surprise.

The Christmas lights throughout the city are spectacular, but the display creating the entrance to the market is magnificent.

If you have kids in your party, you can't miss the outdoor ice rink in Place Dauphine. Reserved for kids, the ice rink is a great way for little ones to burn off some of that extra energy.

Best of all, if you're looking to engage in some fantastic winter sports, you won't even need to hop onto another first class flight to another European city. The region's exciting ski resorts are just an hour or two from Strasbourg. To the east and south are Germany's famed Black Forest ski resorts, including Sasbachwalden, Steinach and Baiersbonn. For those who want to stay in France, the exquisite Vosges Mountain ski resorts are just two hours to the southwest.

After a day spent skiing or relishing the city's Christmas markets, there are several pampering five-star hotels in Strasbourg perfect for resting and recharging. Sofitel Strasbourg Grande Ile is the epitome of luxury in the heart of Strasbourg's historic center. Colorful public areas lead to beautifully appointed guest rooms filled with classically lush furnishings and linens.

Chateau d'Ile is close enough to the historic areas to be convenient but far enough away to provide a little extra peace and quiet. This small boutique luxury hotel’s room are lavish and comfortable, many offering views of the river, private saunas and relaxing balconies.

If you're short on time or want to experience more than just Strasbourg's holiday market, consider one of the many Christmas on the Rhine cruises. AmaWaterways, Grand Circle Cruise Line, Viking and a host of other European River cruise lines stop in Strasbourg
for a day of Christmas revelry. Many of these cruises originate in Zurich, so check with our travel professionals for the best first class deals to Switzerland when you're booking your trip.
